Moroccan-Inspired Tile for your Kitchen

Moroccan-Inspired Tile for your Kitchen

This Minneapolis kitchen called for something exotic, feminine and a material that could remind us of the recent cruise along the Atlantic Ocean. Now, this isn’t something you can find in your average tile store, in fact, it’s not something you’d expect to find in Minneapolis…well, unless you venture to an artisan-made tile shop called Mercury Mosaics! Let’s travel to a fun place in the Northeast Minneapolis Arts District that designs, creates and sells custom-made tile to your exact specifications. Welcome to Mercury Mosaics! Consider this the first stamp in your tile & mosaic passport.

The fun part about tile is that your wall becomes a canvas and the tile being designed for the wall is the art. Stepping into the designs created by Mercury Mosaics completely departs from that experience you had in a tile showroom where someone is selling you something that is most likely associated to a commission. Our clients can expect to experience designers that are passionate about art, excited about color and fully intent on making your space breathe life into your every day affairs.

I came up with the Moroccan-inspired tile shape when I was in a vintage boutique in Hopkins, MN of all places. I find myself shopping in a lot of local places for inspiration and this lovely shape jumped out at me. It’s a part of a set of cookie cutters from the 1940’s. I had many more cutters made for high volume production, but the original shape was probably in someone’s grandmother’s kitchen making some of the most delicious cookies. I immediately fell in love  and integrated it into my regular product line.

We translate your passion about what you’re up to in tile. It’s magic. No, I’m serious, I can’t get enough of tile because when a client finishes their project and sees the tile in place, it just makes them happy. You can’t put a price on that. It charges me full of energy and I want to help another client become this happy. Ok, back to Moroccan Mosaics.

Moroccan Mosaics are exotic, feminine, international and full of texture. The texture comes from the simple shape of the Plus-shaped Moroccans and by the colors within this blend.  This blend is made of: 210 Cashmere Creme, 815 Light Grey, 553 Bronze, 1003 Sun Yellow & 106 Fuji Brown – these colors emulate a sunny day, a walk on the beach, they remind us that it’s not winter outside all year long. We can’t take all of the credit, in fact, this color palette was selected by the lovely Rachel Kate of Rachel Kate Design. Rachel was recently featured on HGTV’s Design Star – Season 7. Rachel can “whip up” an interior like no one’s business. This was our first project with miss Rachel and certainly not our last.
